I have a great fascination for the human brain and the intelligence that arises from it. This fascination has got me curious in wanting to understand its underlying mechanisms and recreate such high level intelligence in machines.
I constantly absorb knowledge from a wide range of disciplines including ComputerScience, Physics, Computational Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, Psychology and Philosophy to get a greater understanding of the human brain & mind and draw ideas to feed the ultimate goal of creating human-like AI.
My fascniation for the human brain, for AI and for a whole lot of other things emerges from this picture, the PALE BLUE DOT.
Every once in a while I come back to this picture, and to Carl Sagan's essay on it. The reason I feel such deep emotion for this picture is perfectly summarised in Carl Sagan's words, "On that dot, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you've ever heard of, every human being that ever was lived out their lives."
Yes, that is how small we are. Yet from within that tiny mote of dust, over eons of evolution, came the human along with its brain. It's mind boggling, to think of what humans have achieved over the years with their collective intelligence. Everything from fire and wheel to space travel and Internet.
Project Encephalon is a group of such humans -all kinds, that are all part of a common quest to understand this brilliant piece of beauty called the BRAIN.
